CIS countries with largest number of state-owned bank assets on market

April 14, Fineko/abc.az. The main threats the CIS countries’ banks face are the increased probability of internal and external conflicts, the aging population, the dominance of state-owned banks, and cyber attacks.

ABC.AZ reports that this conclusion is contained in a study by Moody's.

Thus, the above-mentioned dangers are more observed in the CIS countries than in the global banking sector.

In particular, it is reported that the threat associated with conflicts was manifested in 2020 in Azerbaijan, Armenia, as well as in the Kyrgyz Republic and Belarus, where internal instability reigns. And the decline in the working-age population will have a greater impact on the income of Ukrainian, Belarusian, and Russian banks.

The share of state-owned banks in assets in the market is 85% in Uzbekistan and 29% in Azerbaijan, compared to 73% in Russia.
