June 29, Fineko/abc.az. Sheep farming in Azerbaijan, as an industry, is the main source of income for agriculture (meat and cheese) and livelihood. In addition, the growing demand from local consumption and the export market creates new opportunities for this field of activity, ABC.AZ was informed at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Taking into account many problems faced by cattle producers, in order to determine the strategic vision and direction in sheep farming, project “Sustainable development of sheep farming & creation of a value chain for food production” is conducting a process of evaluating the existing sheep farming system in the country.

On 25 June, at an event with the participation of representatives of the UN Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Agriculture, local specialists and a group of farmers, an evaluation report on the sheep breeding strategy in Azerbaijan was presented by international expert on breeding Maite Lasarte.
