April 20, Fineko/abc.az. The Azerbaijan Insurers Association (ASA) suggested introduction of a new type of compulsory professional insurance.
ASA reports that the workgroup on medical professional liability insurance has held a meeting.
"During the meeting it was offered to introduce compulsory insurance of professional responsibility of doctors, as currently there is a voluntary form of such insurance and that such an innovation is going to be significant for both doctors and patients," ASA said.
The purpose of introduction of compulsory insurance of professional responsibility of doctors is to ensure compensation for medical errors, as well as providing the moral protection and reputation of doctors.
"A proposal has also been made to introduce compulsory insurance in the first place at private hospitals, prepare the amendments to the Law on Population’s Health and the rules of compulsory insurance.
Following discussion, it was decided to develop an Azerbaijani model with study of international experience.
A trilateral meeting of the Azerbaijan Insurance Companies’ Association (ASA), the State Agency for Citizen Services & Social Innovations (ASAN) and the Compulsory Insurers Bureau (ISB) has been held.
