Shortage of microchips has led to decline in production

December 27, Fineko/abc.az. The shortage of microchips and supply chain problems have led to 9.6 million fewer cars planned for production this year, ABC.AZ reports with reference to a study of analytical company LMC Automotive.

According to the study, European manufacturers will suffer the most from the shortage of semiconductors, whose output will decrease by 3 million cars from the planned volumes by the end of the year.

Thus, the production of cars in the region by the end of the year is projected to be 3 million cars less than the planned volume.

IHS Markit predicted in September that by the end of the year the shortage of microchips will result in the loss of 10.6 million cars. Nevertheless, LMC predicts that the situation for automakers will not significantly improve until the 2nd half of 2022, and the shortage of semiconductors in the market will continue until 2023.
