December 30, Fineko/abc.az. Iranian Consul General in Nakhchivan Seyid Ahmad Huseyni met with director of Nakhchivan Railways LLC Mahir Aliyev and discussed the necessary measures in connection with the opening of the Nakhchivan-Mashhad train, according to the Iranian press.

During the meeting the Consul General touched upon the importance of regional communications and added that the launch of a train from Nakhchivan to Mashhad could be the beginning of progress in this direction.

The importance of Iran's cooperation with the Caucasus region in the railway sector was also stressed at the meeting.

The Nakhchivan-Mashhad-Nakhchivan international high-speed train started operating in 2016. However, as a result of restrictive measures taken in connection with the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the operation of this train was suspended.
