April 27, Fineko/abc.az. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in signed a Joint Declaration and agreed to move towards full denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

News agency Reuters reports that the parties signed the Declaration following the summit of two countries’ heads of state, held in the demilitarized zone on the border of the two countries.

The Declaration includes promises to continue gradual reduction of armaments, cease hostilities and abide the agreements on non-aggression and non-use of armed forces against each other, and move towards an agreement on the end of the Korean war.

Both sides stated that they will seek to create a "permanent and lasting" peace on the peninsula.

The two countries also intend to transform the strengthened border into a zone of peace and begin multilateral negotiations with other countries. In mid-May the parties plan to hold talks at the level of generals for establishing contacts and address defense issues. The start of negotiations at the highest level is also expected.

In addition, Pyongyang and Seoul will take measures to connect their railway lines. The Declaration also says that South Korea’s president will visit North Korea in the autumn of 2018.

The meeting of two countries’ leaders was held on 27 April. Kim Jong-un and Moon Jae-in became the first leaders of their countries, who have symbolically visited the territories of both Koreas.
