February 14, Fineko/abc.az. 13 criminal cases have been initiated in Azerbaijan in connection with deposits of construction sand and gravel, ABC.AZ reports with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.

When verifying the information from the Ministry of Ecology & Natural Resources, the PGO Department of Non-Criminal Proceedings revealed numerous breaches during work on the Garachay, Velvelechay, Gudyalchay and Babachay deposits of construction sand and gravel in Guba and Khachmaz districts.

According to the preliminary findings, officials of 8 companies and 5 entrepreneurs are implicated in the abuse of powers, illegal seizure of land and violation of mining leading to damage to the environment totalling AZN 6 million.

In line with the facts, the prosecutors instituted 13 criminal cases. The Investigation Department will take charge of the pre-trial investigation.
