Iran and Azerbaijan sign a memorandum

March 14, Fineko/abc.az. The governments of Azerbaijan and Iran signed on 11 March a memorandum on the creation of new communications between the East Zangezur Economic Region of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan through the territory of Iran.

ABC.AZ reports that the purpose of the Memo is to create a new railway, automobile communication, as well as communication and energy supply lines between the East Zangezur Economic Region and NAR through Iran.

To achieve this goal, it is planned to build four bridges across the Araz River, including two automobile (with a pedestrian crossing) and two railway ones, as well as communications and power supply infrastructure.

The bridges will pass 5 km from the state border of Armenia.

The parties undertake to build on their territory a checkpoint of the state border capable of receiving at least 500 units of a cargo vehicle fleet, including 500 units of entries and 1,000 units of exits per day (export, import and transit cargo).
