Japan’s PM called Abe's health condition critical

July 8, Fineko/abc.az. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters that former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is in critical condition.

"Currently, doctors are doing everything in their power. I hope and pray that former PM Abe survives this," he said.

Kishida noted that the attack on Abe was "barbaric and malicious". He added that it is still unclear what the motives of the shooter were.

A shot was fired at Abe during his speech at an election rally. The suspect in the attack, 41-year-old Yamagami Tetsuya, was detained by police at the scene, his weapon was seized. No information was received about the identity of the attacker and possible motives.

The former PM was taken to the hospital of the Nara Medical University unconscious. The Japanese media, citing various sources, informed that he had a cardiac arrest.
