Fall in Azerbaijan’s chemical sector reached 59.8%
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. This May slowdown in curtailment of manufacture of chemical products in Azerbaijan became more noticeable although for Jan-Apr 2009 the situation approached to smashup that was much stronger than the 2007 collapse in the sector. The State Statistics Committee has informed that for Jan-May 2009 country’s manufacture of chemical products slumped by 59.8% (compared to the 2008 same term), although in January decline was 57.5%, following March 79.7% and April 78.4%. Against this background production of rubber and plastics rose by 1.2% versus rise of 54.6% in March and 59.8% in January and sudden decline of 9.3 in May of the year. “For Jan-May 2009 chemical production totaled AZN 30.7 million (AZN 12.5 million in May, AZN 1.7 million in April and AZN 2.7 million in March) versus AZN 204.1 million for 2008, and manufacture of rubber and plastics AZN 17.7 million (AZN 4.8 in May, AZN 3.9 million in April, AZN 61.4 million in March) versus AZN 61.4 million for 2008,” it was reported. For Jan-May of the year production of liquid caustic soda (its output was not made in January and February) totaled 1,226.7 tons (-88.9% against the 2008 same term). Manufacture of propylene made 5,200 tons (-62.6%), polyethylene 9,600 tons (-61.5%), isopropylene alcohol 3,000 tons (-63.1%), varnish-and-paint products 700 tons (-27.8%). Chloric acid was not produced for Jan-May at all. Production of plastic bags, pipes and other items from hard polyethylene totaled 750.5 tons (-40.5%), plastic window and door frames 194.7 (-44.5%), artificial coverings from cellulose or protein 104.2 tons (-30.5%). As of 1st June 2009, cost of ready chemical products at enterprises’ warehouses increased by AZN 1.2 million in May and reached AZN 25.2 million or 11.4% of overall balance of ready industrial products.
