Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Celeste Wallander, deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia/Ukraine/Eurasia is visiting Baku currently.

The US Embassy in Azerbaijan informs that Ms. Wallander is to conduct negotiations with high-ranking officials of the Azerbaijani government and debates matters of US-Azerbaijani partnership in the area of security and define fields for development of ties.

“Azerbaijan consisting of Moslem population and known as modern and secular state has become the major ally in fighting against extremism jeopardy. Azerbaijan made contribution to efforts of NATO and the coalition in Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Azerbaijan also gives important support to our moves on re-equipping of united and coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The US backs decisively sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. I hope to get an opportunity of meeting with the Azerbaijani Leadership  for discussion of issues and proposal of mutual interest for development of our strategic partnership,” Ms. Wallander said.
