Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan is preparing for the third stage of municipalities.

Mehdi Selimzadeh, the head of the Centre for Municipality Affairs (under the Ministry of Justice), says that for 10 years of municipalities’ activities in Azerbaijan it was achieved substantial progress in municipal governance.

“For this period the country was established 2,753 municipalities numbering about 21,000 members and 20,000 employees. But after adoption of the Municipality Merging Law quantity of municipalities in the country is going to cut to 1,718 ones,” Salimzadeh said.

Municipal elections in Azerbaijan will be conducted on 23 December.
