Azerbaijan can expand peacekeeping forces in Afghanistan
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The Azerbaijani government considers offers of NATO concerning growth of peacekeeping contingent in Afghanistan. Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov said that at present Azerbaijan considers the issue of growth of peacekeeping contingent in Afghanistan. “In the course of the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the NATO country partners, which is held in Brussels, the organizations offered to expand the number of peacemakers in Afghanistan. For its part, Azerbaijan considers the opportunity,” A. Azimov said. According to A. Azimov, the aim of presence of Azerbaijani peacekeeping forces in Afghanistan is close cooperation with NATO, as well as intention to render assistance to Afghanistan and Baku is interested in restoration of stability in this country. “Official Kabul approved offered assistance of Azerbaijan in the sphere of mine clearing, defense, frontier guard service and so on.
