Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is expending works on cleaning of oil-polluted lands.

Company’s vice president for environment Mukhtar Babayev says that this year they are planning to clean 120 hectare territory from oil pollution.

“By early 2010 we have cleaned up 230 hectares in the area of Bibi Eybat,” he said.

SOCAR applies mechanical and biological cleaning and then improves the territory by planting.

“This year we are going to give advantage to biological cleaning. It is longer but more efficient,” Babayev said.

50,000 tress have been planted in the region of Bibi Eybat. In 2010 the Company expects to plant close to 150,000 trees.
