US-Azerbaijan trade turnover for past year exceeded $2 bn

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. In December 2009 Russia with mutual goods turnover for $1.815 bn yielded its second position to the United States and held the third place in the trio of key foreign trade partners of Azerbaijan.

The US, whose last year’s trade turnover with Azerbaijan was $2.01 bn held legal second place.

And leading position of Italy in TOP 3 foreign trade partners of Azerbaijan turned out indisputable despite almost full lack f export from this country to Azerbaijan.

The State Customs Committee (SCC) informs that for 2009 foreign trade turnover of Azerbaijan with CIS countries totaled $3.36 bn or 16.15% of overall foreign trade turnover of the country ($20.818 bn) versus 7.21% for 2008.

Last December trade turnover with these countries made up $155.99 million.

For the past year Azerbaijan exported to the CIS countries commodities for $1.67 bn (11.37% of whole export) and imported goods for $1.89 bn (30.89% of whole import). Azerbaijan had $218.795 million of negative balance in trade with these countries.

Export to the CIS countries included mainly mineral fuel, oil, petroleum products and bitumen materials (51.28%), vessels and other swimming facilities (9.98%), animal and vegetable oils (7.69%), fruits (6.7%), ferrous metals (4.95%).

In import such kinds of goods dominated as animal and vegetable oils (11.15%), equipment and mechanisms (8.43%), ground transport means (8.12%), electric machines and equipment (8.01%) and tobacco and tobacco products (6.7%).

Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover with non-CIS countries totaled $17.256 bn or 83.85% of foreign trade turnover of the country.

Last December trade turnover with them made up $1.847 bn. For past year export to non-CIS countries totaled $13.026 bn (88.63% of whole export), import $4.229 bn (69.11% of entire import) and the country had $8.797 bn of positive balance with them.

Export consisted mainly of mineral fuel, oil and petroleum products, bitumen minerals (98.12%), polymers and products made of them (0.39%), fruits (0.23%), sugar and products made of it (0.2%), jewels and semi-precious stones,  precious metals and wares, made of them, bijouterie, ornamentals  (0.19%),

And import included mainly equipment and mechanical appliances (23.61% of whole import), electric equipment and devices (19.39%), ground transport vehicles (9.97%) and wares made of ferrous metal (7.14%).

For 2009 Italy became Azerbaijan’s key export trade partner (($3.788 bn or 25.77% of whole export) and the USA with $1.746 bn (11.88%) and France with $1.326 bn (9.02%) entered the trio as well.

Then follow Israel $1.236 bn (8.41%), Russia $744.95 million (5.07%), Taiwan $680.39 million (4.63%), Indonesia $660.65 million (4.49%), Canada 587.48 million (4%), Georgia $395.007 million (2.69%), and Malaysia $387.557 million (2.64%).

Russia remained the leader on import operations with $1.07 bn (17.5% of whole import). Then follow Turkey with $905.98 million (14.8%), Germany $550.97 million (9%), Ukraine $511.65 million (8.36%), China $484.8 million (7.92%).

In 2008, the trio consisted of Italy, the United States and Israel.
