Tamiz Shahar plans to adjust half-automatic sorting of solid waste only by end of 2010

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. In compliance with a decree of Azerbaijan President   Ilham Aliyev on August 6, 2008, “On improvement of solid household waste management in Baku city”, in October, 2009, Tamiz Shahar (Clean City) OJSC started managing Balakhani landfill for utilization of city waste,  organized works for its clearing.

CEO of OJSC of Zakir Ibrahimov informed that sorting of waste of each kind is carried out in Balakhani landfill at present.

“For this purpose we attracted local residents. In this year we plan to mount the first sorting installation, which will sort waste in a half-automatic mode in order to process repeatedly.  The first sorting installation is planned to be bought and mounted till the end of this year. Several such sorting installations are planned to be mounted throughout Absheron in the future within the joint project with the World Bank (WB) on solid household waste management waste. As the result, waste will be used for power generation,”  Z.Ibrahimov said.

Along with Balakhani landfill it was also transferred under its authority the hard waste utilizing landfills located on the territory of Surakhani and Garadagh districts of Baku. As there is not a possibility to utilize and neutralize waste at landfills in Surakhani and Garadagh districts, all the hard waste should be delivered to Balakhani landfill.

Balakhan landfill will be rehabilitated in compliance with modern world standards within the project ““Complex management with household hard waste” of World Bank (WB).
