Snowstorm that has hit Azerbaijan’s capital is one of strongest for its history

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. At night from 4 to 5 February the Baku residents became witnesses of rare phenomenon – thunder and lightning in mid-winter.
Lightning continued till 6 am.

As thunderhead passed a snowfall in Baku became stronger and developed into one of the city history’s strongest snowstorms by 8 am.

Air temperature is near 0C on Celsius scale. Wire-disconnection faults have occurred in Baku following snow adhering to cable lines and squally wind. Electric substations in a range of districts failed to stand increased voltage. Motor transport of the city located on hills is almost paralyzed because of   abundant snowfall. The underground remains the only reliable mean of transport.
Currently the snowfall is ongoing.
