Azerbaijan prepares to accede to European academic computer network
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijani CERT team has commenced the process of certification in the Trans-European Research & Education Networking Association (TERENA). Rasim Aliguliyev, director of the Institute of Information Technology of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (AMEA), informs that certification is the latest step in the process of Azerbaijan’s accession to TERENA. "Joining the TERENA is of great importance for Azerbaijan, as it will enable Azerbaijani science to integrate into the global virtual research environment to connect to GIANT, get access to additional services (GRID, Cloud Computing and Eduroam (Education Roaming), provided for scientists to familiarize with the latest scientific developments and prevent errors and failures of research in their scientific activities," Aliguliyev emphasized. He points out that within the framework of certification the TERENA experts will appreciate the correspondence of scientific computer network AzScienceNet to international standards for similar networks. Upon completion of certification in the TERENA, AzScienceNet will transfer from an ordinary computer network into the scientific network that provides a range of services, in particular on creation of scientific content, protection of human rights, information security, etc. "These measures are being taken for AzScienceNet’s future accession to the European scientific network that requires a number of immunities for information security in networks of separate countries to make European network not to have vulnerabilities and be protected from hacking and unauthorized access," Aliguliyev said. In this regard, the Institute is constantly improving and developing AzScienceNet, which in the future will be integrated with e-government system.
