Azerbaijan expects mass closure of Internet providers
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The future of the Internet in Azerbaijan is behind the development of Internet TV services and Video on Demand (Video on Request). Intrans head Faig Farmanov informs that Azerbaijan’s largest primary provider Delta Telekom has provided to date the market with Internet traffic, exceeding the capacity of the secondary providers who have difficulty in development. "Providers are currently not in the best position, as for development of their activities they should develop the volume of internet traffic they were given by buying it from the primary provider. In order to sell it to end users and stay on the market, they reduce the price that ultimately affects the quality of services provided, as the provider loses part of its income which it can direct for development of infrastructure. In this case, communication operators benefit as they have their own infrastructure. Among them are Baku Telephone Communications Department (BTRIB), Aztelekom, Azeurotel, Ultel etc. Private secondary providers can, of course, unite, but on the local market it is impossible as each of the players has its own ambitions and interests with which it does not want to share, or say goodbye to them," Farmanov said, when analyzed the market situation. He points out that now the end users largely do not need huge volumes of traffic. "However, traffic would be necessary for them if there is a wide range of Video on Demand quality services, or a large number of Internet TV channels. The interesting segments of Internet services are also Fiber to Home, broadband Internet, based on modern mobile technology LTE, 3G, 4G," Farmanov said.
