Azerbaijan prepares to donate digital decoders to needy
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The National TV & Radio Broadcasting Council has appealed to the President of Azerbaijan with a proposal to provide free to the poor devices for watching digital TV. Council chairman Nushiravan Maharramli informs that currently the proposal is being considered by the government. "In case a positive decision is made on this matter, the 120 000 low-income families will receive necessary digital decoders for viewing digital channels free of charge. In this case, full transition to digital television can be implemented in the next few months, otherwise the process could be longer,” he said. According to Maharramli, today Azerbaijani TV and radio channels are ready to switch to digital broadcasting. "Since 22 December all Azerbaijani TV channels are carrying out both digital and analog broadcasting in parallel on 85% of country’s territory. Our goal is to finish analog broadcasting in the country next year. This year, 20 countries have transferred to digital broadcasting by stopping analog one," he added.
