Winter & summer tourist complex Shahdag to open from three hotels
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The official opening of the countrys first summer & winter tourist resort Shahdag scheduled for 15 February has been postponed for the end of 2012.
Narmina Rustamzadeh, a spokesperson of the Shahdag Complex Directorate’s press service, informs that the resort opening was postponed because of construction work which was not finished in time.
"Such a complex is built in Azerbaijan for the first time and, therefore, time is demanded for its better construction. At present, the territory of complex Shahdag is closed, but by the end of 2012 it will be finished construction of three hotels in the area and the complex will begin accepting its first guests," she said.
To date, it has been completed construction of the following facilities on the territory of the complex: a 4-star hotel (166 rooms), a lift base complex (42 rooms for living) and installation of assembling elevators #2 and #4, the longest lift #3 (1,484 m), and at the stage of completion is construction of lift #7.
By September or November it is planned to complete fully construction and put into operation elevators #7-9. It was also finished construction of internal infrastructure and building of outside one is under way.
In the prospect use of helicopters for arrival at the complex is expected.
The project was launched in 2006. The Shahdagh Complex Directorate was established to run the project. Construction of the complex began in September 2009. The complex is located 32 km from the regional centre - Gusar. Its total area is 2,058 hectares. The construction area is situated in Shahdagh National Park. The complex is at 1,300-2,351 m and its main part at 1,640 m above sea level. Unlike from existing systems of this type in the world, it will operate throughout the year.
