Azerbaijan registers up to 800 author’s rights annually

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The European Union’s twinning project allowed Azerbaijan to strengthen measures aimed at protecting intellectual property copyright.

Kamran Imanov, chairman of the State Copyright Agency, informs that annually the Agency receives 700-800 appeals on the occasion registration of copyright for intellectual property.

"They concern mainly scientific works, computer programs, musical compositions, etc. I recommend to all scientists and intellectual property owners to register their copyrights, as it has a legal basis. When the person, whose intellectual property right has been violated, registered the copyright for a particular work or research work in advance, we as the agency can provide the rights for this product of intellectual labour in court. Otherwise, the process is complicated," he emphasized.

Imanov says that today the level of piracy in the area of audiovisual and musical works reduced from 90% to 67% and in the field of software products from 95% to 88%.

"I guess that on the basis of an agreement signed with Microsoft, all the state institutions will gradually transfer to use of licensed software. International practice shows that such measures lead to a reduction of the use of pirated products by 14-15%," Imanov said.
