Milli Majlis speaker: European Parliament’s biased resolution cannot make Azerbaijan to turn off from legal way of development
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Today the Azerbaijani parliamentarians are discussing a resolution of critical nature adopted on 24 May by the European Parliament in respect to Azerbaijan. During the debate Milli Majlis speaker Ogtay Asadov has stated that last week Baku hosted a big international event which was attended by representatives from 42 European countries, and observers noted the high level of contest Eurovision. "However, while this event gladdened our friends, it simultaneously caused concern among anti-Azerbaijani forces. All that we saw in the speeches in the media, that was a manifestation of envy to the development of Azerbaijan, and one of these reactions is the resolution passed hastely by the European Parliament," he noted. According to Asadov, in response to this resolution he wrote a letter to the chairman of the European Parliament, in which he indicated the biased character of the document. "Only 57 members of the 750 MPs of the European Parliament, including 12 members of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, adopted the biased resolution against Azerbaijan. I fully condemn this resolution and I believe that one of the reasons of its adoption is jealousy and envy to the development and independent policy of Azerbaijan. I confidently declare that anti-Azerbaijani forces are behind adoption of this resolution, as well as the Armenian lobby is behind some members of the European Parliament. But I want to stress that the Azerbaijani government and its president are now following independent policy, and no one can make Azerbaijan to turn of from secular and legal path of development," he stressed. The resolution calls for the first time to sanctions against officials of Azerbaijan who, according to the European Parliament, violate human rights and basic freedoms in Azerbaijan.
