ADB starts assessing opportunities of new financing in road sector of Azerbaijan
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The Asian Development Bank is ready to expand its operations in the road sector of Azerbaijan. The Baku-based AD resident office reported of an upcoming visit of its mission to Baku to be led by Mr. Reddy Bathula Balabhaskara, Bank’s Senior Transport Specialist, who will assess (due diligence) a possible new financing facility in the road sector. But the program of ADB-government consultations on operations in road sector is not exhausted by hat. “The next mission, Safeguards Review Mission, will visit Azerbaijan on June 21-26. Its primary objective is to review status of Road Network Development Program in complying with environment and involuntary resettlement safeguards requirements and compile documentation of good practices and issues that can be used for future projects, training materials or case studies for knowledge products,” the ADB office informed. Mr. Ralf Starkloff, Senior Social Development Specialist will lead the mission work. “The mission will hold meeting with the project’s implementing agency representatives, supervision consultants, and contractor; and conduct field visits and dialogue with affected persons,” the ADB office reported. The visit of the third mission is scheduled for the second half of June, led by Mr. Kapil Thukral, Senior Evaluation Specialist, who will review implementation of the bank-wide multitranche financing facilities and take Road Network Development Program as a case study. The team will assess the effectiveness of the facility in executing the program and helping the government improve the sector. Related news
