Azerbaijan and Portugal check their positions on a number of actual conflicts

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Portugal discussed the events in Syria and Iran.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has informed that during the meeting the sides also discussed the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Garabagh conflict and Azerbaijan’s position on its settlement, in particular conflict settlement without the use of force, keeping of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and the return of indigenous Azerbaijani population of Nagorno-Garabagh to its lands.

"We also discussed possibilities of cooperation in cultural and humanitarian sphere. I believe this visit will play a key role in the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Portugal," he said.

In turn, the Foreign Minister Paulo Portash of Portugal said the talks were held in a friendly atmosphere.

"Our countries are very similar in a number of criteria, in particular, we have the territory and the population which are equal on their size, and love for football. We stand on the international scene from the same positions. Besides, both our countries became members of the UN Security Council simultaneously. Within today’s talks we discussed the events in Syria and Iran. I believe in the fruitfulness of the negotiations with Iran, that they will give positive results. In Syria, the concern is civil war, which can complicate the restoration of stability. As for Garabagh conflict, it can be resolved by diplomatic means," Portash emphasized.
