Azerbaijan estimates gold medal of London Olympics in almost $1.2 million
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan has estimated the price of gold medal to be won by the Azerbaijani athlete at the Olympics in London at $1.146 million at the exchange rate on 3 July, of which the sportsman will receive nearly $764,000 and his mentor $382,000.
This became known after yesterday President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan ordered the establishment of awards for Azerbaijani sportsmen and their coaches for the best results at the XXX Olympic Games and Paralympic Games XIV. Besides, yesterday President Aliyev, as the president of the National Olympic Committee, established a similar award from the NOC.
So, for the London’s gold medal the Azerbaijani’s Olympian will get AZN 400,000 from the state and AZN 200,000 from the NOC (in total: AZN 600,000), and his coach – AZN 200,000 and AZN 100,000 respectively (in total: AZN 300,000). It means that the total premium cost of the gold medal amounts to AZN 9000,000. The total premium for the second place reaches AZN 450,000: the athlete will receive AZN 300,000 (AZN 200,000 from the state and AZN 100,000 from the NOC) and his coach – AZN 150,000 (AZN 100,000 and AZN 50,000 respectively). Payments for the third place are limited by AZN 225,000: the athlete will receive AZN 150,000 (AZN 100,000 and AZN 50,000 respectively) and his mentor – AZN 75,000 (AZN 50,000 and AZN 25,000). Theoretically, if an athlete performs in several disciplines, then following the results of the Olympics, he can become a manat millionaire.
Azerbaijan’s awards for Paralympians are as follows: the first place – AZN 200,000 for the athlete and and AZN 100,000 for the coach respectively, for the second place – AZN 100,000 and AZN 50,000; and for the third place – AZN 50,000 and AZN 25,000 respectively. The award from the National Paralympic Committee has not been published.
