Construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway placed in round the-clock regime
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Following the IV meeting of the Trilateral Coordination Council for the construction and operation of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Project (Iron Silk Way) Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, will sign the protocol in Baku today on acceleration of solution of the projects technical issues. Transport Minister of Azerbaijan Ziya Mammadov has reported that construction work is coming to end and the sides have agreed on acceleration of technical issues solution to provide the road commissioning in 2014. Turkish Transport, Navigation and Communication Minister Binali Yildirim stated that to accelerate the road construction the sides have agreed to conduct construction work 24 hours a day in summer season. "At that Transport Ministers of the three countries will meet every 2 months to discuss the project problems and not every half a year as now, and workgroups of the sides will hold monthly meetings. The meeting will be held on construction sites ",- B. Yildirim said. Georgian Regional Development and Infrastructure Minister Ramaz Nikolaishvili noted the interest of third parties to road operation. " We have already started talks with a number of countries on use of the road for their cargo",- R. Nikolaishvili said. According to the plan construction work on the border between Georgia and Turkey will be finished before the end of 2012. Besides, by the end of the year, Turkey has promised to complete the construction of its rail section. Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will be built and commissioned fully in 2014. Previously the sides planned to put the pilot train via this railway route by the end of 2012 and start its full operation in 2013. The parties explain the postponement of work completion terms with composite topography in Turkey and Georgia, and with severe weather conditions.
