SOCAR promises EU to increase gas export to Europe up to 20 bn cu m a year
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Rovnag Abdullayev, the president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), has received in Baku today the European Union delegation at the head of minister for foreign affairs Carl Bildt of Sweden.
SOCXAR reports that Mr. Bildt claimed of EU’s interest to co-operation with Azerbaijan in the area of energy security and export of energy resources from Azerbaijan.
In particular it was touched theme of Southern Corridor Project.
In this connection Abdullayev emphasized operation of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline with capacity of 50 million tons of oil a year and a possibility to increase capacity of gas pipeline Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum up to 20 bn cu m a year. He also claimed of interest to such projects as Nabucco, TGI and TAP.
Within the trip to South Caucasus the EU troika delegation led by Mr.Bildt is visiting Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia on 16–20 July.
The trip will also encompass a field visit to the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia.
The question of extending the EUMM mandate is on the agenda of the EU foreign ministers’ meeting at the end of July.
In Azerbaijan the Troika will meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and civil society. Matters of common interest including energy, Nagorno Garabagh conflict and EU-Azerbaijan relations will be discussed.
Accompanying Mr. Bildt on the Troika will be European Commission representatives Karel Kovanda (Deputy Director-General and Political Director) and John Kjaer (Head of Unit), Peter Semneby (EU Special Representative) and Paolo Barroso Simoes (Council Secretariat). Spain’s Ambassador on Special Mission to Central Asia, Santiago Chamorro, will represent the next country to hold the EU Presidency.
