UK still remains major investor of Azerbaijan

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The State Statistics Committee (SSC) declined to reveal dynamics of foreign investments in Azerbaijani economy for September, as well as for August, which reduced between January and July of the year by 48.2% against the 2008 same term. But that did not prevent the UK to keep its leading position as the key foreign investor in country’s economy for Jan-Sept 2009.

The SSC reports that with overall foreign investments for AZN 914.216 million (including AZN 98.119 million in September), the UK with investments for AZN 417 million ensured 45.6% of their volume. The US invested AZN 144.77 million or 15.8% of all foreign investments, Japan AZN 75.599 million (8.3%), Norway AZN 47.119 million (5.2%), Turkey AZN 37.4 million (4.1%), France AZN 33.09 million (3.6%), Czech Republic AZN 19.107 million (2.1%), and Korea AZN 6.19 million (0.7%).

Kazakhstan entered in number of investors of Azerbaijan first time with investments of AZN 1.458 million (0.2% of all investments).

Among international organizations major investments were made by the World Bank Group (AZN 63.737 million or 7% of all investments), the Asian Development Bank (AZN 25.4 million or 2.8%), the European Bank of Reconstruction & Development (AZN 19.01 bn or 2.1%), the Islamic Development Bank (AZN 2.26 million or 0.2%), the Kuwaiti Fund of Arab Economy Development AZN 4.966 million or 0.5% of all investments in Azerbaijani economy.
