Cargo transportation growth in Azerbaijan reached 26.8% in October

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. This October cargo carriages in Azerbaijan by all transport means increased by 26.9% up to 19.9 million tons against 15.7 million tons in September, 15.7 million tons in August, 14.4 million tons in July, 18.9 million in June, 15.8 million tons in May, 15.6 million tons in April, 14.7 million tons in March and 13.4 million tons in February and 13.5 million tons in January of the year.

The State Statistics Committee informs that most part of overall cargo (154.6 million tons) for Jan-Oct 2009 was transported by road 48.1%, via pipelines 33.6%, by rail 11.1% and by sea 7.2%.

For the last 10 months cargo carriages increased by 6.8% and cargo turnover by 9.3% against the 2008 same term. The share of cargo carriages by private sector (rise of 8.9%) reached 72.9%.

For the reported term 1.09 bn passengers were transported that is by 7% more against Jan-Oct 2008. 83.5% of passenger carriages were carried out by non-state sector.

For Jan-Oct of the year it was carried 17.2 million tons of cargo by rail. It was loaded on average 623 wagons a day and unloaded 490 ones.

Over the last 10 months it was shipped 11.1 million tons of cargo that is by 14.6% more against Jan-Oct 2008. Of them oil made 75% and dry cargo 25%.

By road it was carried 74.4 million tons of cargo and 911.8 million passengers that is by 5.8% and 7.1% more respectively versus the Jan-Oct 2008 figures.

Cargo transportation by buses made 96.5% and automobiles 3.5%. Motor cargo turnover increased by 5.6% and the passenger turnover by 8.2%.

By air 844,900 passengers were transported for Jan-Oct 2009. 89.8% of the passengers were carried by planes of state airlines and 10.2% by planes of private ones.

In state sector carriages declined by 30% and in private sector grew by 2.3%.

Transportation via domestic oil pipelines reached 42.4 million tons. Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipe carried 32.1 million tons of oil.

Turnover via domestic gas main pipelines increased by 4.9%, and 4.3 bn cu m of that gas volume was exported via Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline. Total volume of gas carried for Jan-Oct 2009 totaled 9.5 bn cu m.
