Internet Forum of Azerbaijan offers developing Azerbaijan existing Internet highways instead of TASIM Project
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Internet Forum of Azerbaijan doubts of the necessity of project Transnational Eurasian Information Superhighway (TASIM). IFA president Osman Gunduz says that Forum’s view on this project differs to the certain extent as well. “10 years ago Azerbaijan allocated up to 30 million manats for similar project - TAE. Now the Ministry of Communications & Information Technologies initiates a similar project. Azerbaijan already has two Internet highways. Why the third is necessary when the two available ones can be developed?” Gunduz said. On 11 November 2008, Azerbaijan presented an idea on creation of TASIM in a regional meeting of ministers of communications and information technologies in Baku. As a result, the Baku Declaration was adopted. The declaration is aimed at supporting creation of a new information and communication space for Europe and Asia by the Committee of Ministers of Council of Europe and other agencies. The project was also presented to all diplomatic establishments of other countries, located in Azerbaijan, further in U.N. headquarters, in main session of the U.N. Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and ITU Telecom World-2009 forum. Tags: TASIM Related news
