BP and partners give new grant for development of village of Ujar district of Azerbaijan
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. BP and its partners in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG), Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC), Shah Deniz (SD) and South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) projects announced the recent award of a grant to strengthen the agricultural sector in Garadakhly village in Ujar district. BP informed that the project will mainly target people, who are involved in the agricultural sector, including small landowners, farmers, traders and employees of processing industry. “The project is designed to provide sustainable income by means of raising grain, vegetable and processing, using business skills and knowledge on farming,” it was informed. Within the framework of the project residents of the village will be provided with agricultural materials and the equipment, as well as courses will be carried out for them on new technologies and methods of quality improvement of vegetable production and cattle, distribution of crops and transition to pure agriculture as regards ecology. In addition, the courses will be carried out for such issues as prevention of desertification and erosion, yield increase and others. The project will be implemented by Ganja Agribusiness Association (GABA) – a local non-governmental organisation established in 1996. “Executors of the project were chosen by force of the contest, carried out within the framework of “Sustainable Development Initiatives”. The total value of the project totaled $121,000, out of share of which BP and partners makes over $ 110,000. The community and sides of the project contribute $11,000. Period of the project makes 1 year and it will be finished in November, 2010,” it was informed. Tags: bp Related news
