Baku, Fineko/abc.az. President Ilham Aliyev has ordered the measures to strengthen the material and technical base of the Republican Stadium named after Tofig Bahramov.
Under the order, the Presidential Reserve Fund of the State Budget of Azerbaijan for 2011 allocated AZN 10 million to the Ministry of Youth & Sports for capital repairs and reconstruction of the Stadium. The Ministry of Finance will undertake the procedure of financing.
The Head of State pointed out that the Bahramov Stadium is the largest sports arena of the country and since commissioning in 1951 has played an important role in the development of sports in the country.
The stadium, where now test matches of World and European Championships are organized under the flags of FIFA and UEFA, has already turned out into a sports facility of international importance.
This stadium is the main candidate for 57th European song contest Eurovision in May 2012.
