The number of appeals for consumer rights protection rose by 80% in Azerbaijan

Baku, Fineko/ In connection with World Consumer Rights Protection Day marked today, Baku is hosting annual conference " Azerbaijan’s consumer policy: rights of each consumer should be provided ".

Head of State Service on Antimonopoly Policy and Consumer Rights Protection under Economic Development Ministry of Azerbaijan Zahid Aliyev has stated that the country pursues the policy on consumer rights protection, within which a number of new laws were adopted and old laws were brought in compliance with international standards.

" Following the Service’s monitorings in 2011, 1994 facts of consumer rights violation by economic agents were revealed, due to which 167.700 tons of food and over 1.000 tons of non-food commodities were revealed and destroyed. Following monitoring , the economic agents were penalized for AZN 1.278 million. Also financial sanctions for AZN 307.000 were laid due to unfair competition and deception of consumers ",- Z. Aliyev said.

In his words, most part of consumers’ complaints concerns impossibility of return or change of low quality product, and quality of sold products.

" On the whole, thanks to consumer rights’ propaganda in 2011, the number of consumers’ appeals on protection of their rights rose by 80% against 2010 and these appeals were considered and satisfied within legislation ",- Z. Aliyev added.
