Polish company offers its e-passport services for Azerbaijan
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Rasim Alguliyev, the director of the Institute of Information Technologies (Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences; ANAS) has had a meeting with second secretary of the Polish Embassy to Azerbaijan Daniel Sekevich. The Institute reports that during the meeting Mr. Sekevich spoke about old and rich history of Polish-Azerbaijani relations and hoped for political, economical, as well as cultural and scientific-technical corporation. Mr. Sekevich showed an interest to works conducted by Azerbaijan when its biometric identification system, solving legal, organization, economic and scientific-theoretical issues in the area, and making biometric passports. He also talked about “Polish Security Printing Works” (PWPW S.A.) factory specialized in the production of banknotes, stamps, shares and bonds and various security papers, including ID cards, driving licenses and passports, for government institutions since 1925. Currently the Institute is conducting a range of surveys on national biometric identification system, testing of biometric technologies, assessment of security of biometric systems, improvement of existing biometric technologies and processing of new technologies. “In his turn, Alguliyev emphasized importance of such issues as production and introduction of biometric documents of new generation, creation and improvement of relevant infrastructure. According to Mr. Sekevich, PWPW S.A. is equipped with advanced equipment and technologies, and new printing technologies. He pointed out that services rendered in the area sometimes surpass European standards. Polish security printing works created “Sigillum” – the Polish Centre of Electronic Certification in 2002.
