Azerbaijan forced to diversify gas export for region’s seismic instability

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has justified quite elegantly the necessity of diversification of routes for natural gas export from the country.

At today’s Baku conference Caspian Gas Infrastructure 2009 SOCAR’s vice president Elshad Nasirov has stated that in the opinion of Azerbaijan, gas is not a political tool but it should be used with maximum commercial profit.

“Georgia, Turkey, Iran and since the next year Russia are Azeri gas importers, and we intend to use all pipelines and architecture for natural gas export fro angle of seismic instability of the region,” he said.

Azerbaijan’s gas reserves are estimated at the level of 5 trillion cu m and the country is ready to increase form current 27-29 billion cu m up to 30-25 billion cu m.
