Islamic Development Bank starts researching to set up administration on Russia and CIS countries

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Group of the Islamic Development Bank   (IDB) together with the  Organization of the Islamic conference (OIC) launch comprehensive survey of 6 CIS states, being their members. 

An informed source says that at meeting, took place  in Istanbul (Turkey) recently, IDB accepted the offer on consideration of the issue  concerning  separation of cooperation with the former USSR states in a separate department.

“In this connection,  in 2010,  by order IDB and OIC comprehensive survey of these 6 states will be conducted (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan), including economic and social parameters. On the basis of the survey,  conclusion will be drawn on possibility to change cooperation scheme with these countries,” a source said.

Today, cooperation is organized on language closeness. As a result,  Turkey coordinates work with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and Iran  - work with Tajikistan.

 “IDB was also offered cooperation with Russia, because by some estimates, to 45% of its population is Moslems. At that, cooperation with Russian  can be organized by  «istisna» principle and intend  financing of mosques, medreses,  and similar objects,” source informed.

It is expected, survey will be conducted by Azerbaijani consulting company or a consortium with its participation.
