Azerbaijan ready to refuse from gas export through Turkey

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan is trying to end the deadlock in which negotiations about gas transit through Turkey and supplies to this country are now.

Rovnag Abdullayev the president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), says that Azerbaijan is preparing new proposals for Azeri gas export through Turkish territory.

And if their discussion is not crowned with success, then repeated assessment of offers for export of Azeri liquefied gas to Europe from the Black Sea coastline will be carried out.

We’ve received repeatedly suggestions for Azeri liquefied gas export on Black Sea coastline. We are ready to consider this perspective direction and have already launched to do that. Some European countries propose to compress gas at the Black Sea coastline and pump it into the pipeline in one of the European states. It is considered quite normal practice around the world,” Abdullayev said.

Azerbaijan has received similar proposals from Georgia and Romania. The delays of arrangements with Turkey have led to the fact that terms of production of main gas in Azerbaijan were postponed from 2014 to 2016.

Lack of progress of Azerbaijan-Turkey negotiations makes it difficult Azerbaijan’s participation in project of European gas pipeline Nabucco.
