Baku, Fineko/abc.az. At the gala event, held on April 21 at Grand Hotel Europe, a student-team from Mingechevir Humanitarian and Technical Lyceum became the champion of 10th National Management and Economics Competition (NMEC). Hosted by Junior Achievement Azerbaijan, the event was conducted within the School Economics Education Program, supported by BP and its co-ventures in ACG, Shahdeniz, BTC, and SCP, StatoilHydro, USAID, Chevron, and Baker & McKenzie.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Education, Baku Education Department, USAID, BP, StatoilHydro, Baker & McKenzie, McDermott Caspian Contractors Inc., KCA Deutag, Bakcell, and HP.

At the final round seven teams from Baku schools ##132, 95, 91 and Zangi Lyceum, and Mingechevir Humanitarian and Technical Lyceum competed for the title of national champion on using the business simulation software. These teams advanced to the finals by winning 64 teams from around Azerbaijan. In total 192 students participated in the elimination rounds.

During the event, a friendly match with participation of winner students and representatives from business community also took place. Through the four intensive rounds the students and businessmen were making decision on pricing, production, investment, level of scientific research, marketing and charity issues. The friendly-match winner team – students of Baku school #95, Mr Daniel Matthews from Baker & McKenzie and Ms Ulduz Taghiyeva from McDermott – received symbolic prizes from JA Azerbaijan.

The event ended with the award ceremony of the competition winners: Mingechevir Humanitarian and Technical Lyceum (I Place), Baku School #132 (II Place), and Baku Zangi Lyceum (III Place).
