Baku Interbank Currency Exchange’s turnover on US dollar spot transactions in BEST system still makes $1.7 bn for 2009

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. For 19-23 October turnover of US dollar spot transactions in Bank Interbank Currency Exchange’s (BBVB) BEST e-trading system totaled $9.238 million versus the best week’s indicator in 2009 (16-19 March - $276.588 million), BBVB reported.

As a result, BEST turnover on spot-deals in October still makes $45.5 million versus $58.184 million in September, $54.586 million in August, $59.175 million in July, $96.363 million in June, $62.855 million in May, $228.7 million in April, $711.456 million in March (a monthly turnover record for the exchange’s whole history), $357.508 million in February and $32.572 million in January of 2009, $439.087 million in June 2008 (best turnover for BEST entire history), the 2007 record of $310.3 million in July, BBVB entire history turnover record of $434.432 million in December 2006, the 2005 record of $108.781 million in September, the 2004 record of $97.59 million in March, the 2003 record of $100.428 million in December.

This year’s spot transaction turnover on US dollar still makes $1.707 bn versus $2.46 bn in 2008, (record for 15 years of activity of the exchange), $1.75bn in 2007, $1.9bn in 2006, the 2005 turnover of $813.284 million, the 2004 turnover record of $910.97 million and the 2003 turnover of $438.9 million.

The data for 2009 does not take into consideration SWAP deals ($260.4 million) signed in February ($57.4 million), March ($91.4 million), April ($67.4 million), May ($34.2 million), and June ($10 million). But if to take them into account, the turnover for March would make $802.856 million (in February: $414.908 million), for April $296.107 million, for May $96.78 million and for Jan-Oct 2009 $2.967 bn. At the same time turnover for 16-19 March would make $303.988 million.

During the current workweek of 2009 only deals with realization on the same day were concluded in BEST: on 19 October turnover totaled $190,000 (exchange rate: AZN 0.8029 to the US dollar), on 20 October $650,000 (rate: AZN 0.803 to the US dollar), on 21 October $7.07 million (rate: AZN 0.8028 to the US dollar), on 22 October $530,000 (rate: AZN 0.8032 to the US dollar), on 23 October $798,000 (rate: AZN 0.8033 to the US dollar).

The 5 June 2008 turnover ($143.749 million) became the best for entire history of BEST and exchange’s turnover per trading day. But on 13 March spot-transaction turnover ($134.353 million) and swap deals ($24 million) made $158.353 million – absolutely new record. The best turnover per week was registered on 2-6 June 2008 - $282.974 million. The best turnover per day in 2009 was registered on 17 March - $121.799 million.

The average deal size on the same day made $190,000 on 19 October, $162,500 on 20 October, $1.178 million on 21 October, $530,000 on 22 October, and $266,000 on 23 October.
