On 5-6 November Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan to try make closer their approaches towards Caspian Sea division

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan does not leave attempts to agree with Turkmenistan on the occasion of Caspian Sea bottom division as it has been done with Russia and Kazakhstan.

Deputy foreign minister Khalaf Khalafov of Azerbaijan says that on 5-6 November the two countries are to hold next consultations on the matter.

“Negotiations will be conducted in Ashgabat,” Khalafov said.

Ater the fist round of talks in Baku this year Turkmenistan tried to initiate the procedure of international arbitration in connection with Azerbaijan’s activity in “Turkmen sector of the Caspian”. Tow states’ disagreements are linked with the definition of the Caspian middle line.

According to Azerbaijani system (passed by the former USSR’s Ministry of Geology), only field Kapaz (Serdar in Turkmen transcription) is trans-border, joint development of which was proposed by Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan. According to Turkmen version, its sea sector includes Kapaz/Serdar and even field Azeri (part of contract field block developed since 1994 by Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC) led by BP).
