May 31, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijani customs officers prevented illegal import of jewelry in the country.

The State Customs Committee reports that the employees of the Main Customs Department on Air Transport of Azerbaijan prevented the smuggling of jewelry in the country with total weight of about 0.5 kg.

"An Azerbaijani citizen on the Istanbul-Baku flight was detained during customs control on personal inspection. During the inspection, an undeclared one set of earrings, a ring and a pendant, two chains, three rings and two bracelets were found," the Committee informed.

As a result of more thorough inspection, the offender’s underwear was found out 28 bracelets and chains, 7 rings, 43 pairs of earrings, 1 set of earrings, a rings and a pendant, 12 sets of earrings and rings.

"According to the examination, the products were recognized as jewelry. The total weight of the jewelry articles is 486.88 g, and gold of 585 alloy," the SCC said in a statement.

Investigation on the occasion is underway.
