October 7, Fineko/abc.az. The final environmental initiative of the "Protect the Caspian Sea!" International Coastal Cleanup Campaign, which Bakcell is a partner of, has been held in Baku. This year the campaign, which is being organized for more than ten years in a row, was implemented on a much larger scale and for the first time covered all the Caspian coast regions.

The purpose of the campaign is to improve the ecological situation in the country, educate the population in this area and to promote the principles of a responsible approach towards the environment.

This year " Protect the Caspian Sea!" International Coastal Cleanup Campaign was organized with partnership of "Coca-Cola", "Bakcell", "PASHA Bank" and "Carlsberg Azerbaijan" companies, with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, ASAN Service, “ASAN Volunteers" Organization and the executive partnership of the "EcoHub" ecological platform. Many other organizations and companies have also participated in the organization of the initiative.

During the month of September, 1500 volunteers have cleared 10 hectares of coastal area of 5 tons of waste, during the cleaning campaigns organized on public beaches located in Khachmaz, Shabran, Siyazan, Neftchala, Astara, Lankaran, Sumgait and Baku.

It should be noted that the International Coastal Cleanup Day, held in more than 100 countries around the globe for the past 30 years, is the world’s largest effort to rid the ocean and waterways of plastics and marine debris. Azerbaijan participates in this international environmental action under the slogan of "Protect the Caspian Sea!" for more than 10 years now, and the scale of the initiative is expanding every year.

For many years now Bakcell is a strong supporter of this initiative. Being the first mobile operator to join this effort, Bakcell contributes largely to enlightenment in the area of ecological protection, as well as the protection of the environment and population health.
