June 21, Fineko/abc.az. The government of Azerbaijan proposes to increase the number of universities.

Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmedov has stated that it is necessary to increase the availability of higher education and increase the number of universities.

"1.3% of the Azerbaijani population is students and this figure is lower than in other countries. The situation could be improved with introduction of minor changes in the process of planning of enrolment for universities.  It is necessary to increase the number of universities, but it should be done without affecting the quality of education," the Deputy PM said.

He added that expansion of the privatization process could also be effective for higher education.

"We should take more bold steps in the sphere of providing universities with freedom," Ahmedov said.
