July 2, Fineko/abc.az. As of 31 May 2018 total assets of the banking system of Azerbaijan amounted to AZN 27.559 bn, loan portfolio AZN 11.55 bn, and liabilities AZN 23.6 bn.

The Financial Market Supervision Chamber (FIMSA) reports that balance capital of the banking sector totaled to AZN 3.929 bn and retail deposits AZN 7.868 bn.

In May the banks' assets decreased by 0.3% or AZN 92 million and liabilities by 0.6% or AZN 149 million, while banks' capital grew by 1.5% or AZN 57 million. Growth in credit activity of banks was observed as well. In particular, the loan portfolio grew by 1.1% or AZN 130 million in May.

Retail fixed-term deposits increased by 2.5% or AZN 137 million in May. Banking sector revenues for May amounted to AZN 52 million, which were directed to cover losses from loans.

During the reporting period, the existing 30 banks had 511 branches, 143 departments, 2,471 ATMs. The number of employees in the banking sector increased by 1% or 159 people up to 16,662 people that is by 3% or 491 people more than in early 2018.
