Ramadan Abdulatipov: Convention on Caspian Sea legal status can be signed at Astana summit

July 6, Fineko / abc.az. The Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, which has been under negotiation for 25 years, can be signed this year.

In an interview for TASS, the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation on issues of humanitarian and economic cooperation with the countries of the Caspian region, the former head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov has stated that diplomats and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs say that the fit finally to the point when all five countries can agree on.

"So, it is quite possible that the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea can be signed already this year at the Astana summit of heads of state, which is traditionally attended by the heads of all Caspian States. Without this document, it is quite difficult to talk about active economic cooperation, so the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin has already agreed on the version of the proposals provided by the Russian government," Abdulatipov said.
