Ismayilli district prosecutor dismissed from his post

July 26, Fineko/abc.az. Measures aimed at further fulfillment of Azerbaijan president’s instructions and recommendations to strengthen combating corruption and bribery are ongoing.

The General Prosecutor's Office informs that cases of abuse of official powers, bribery and corruption are observed among the officials of organs of the prosecutor's office in recent years, despite the anti-corruption reform.

Investigation is underway at the GPO Main Anti-Corruption Department on the basis of complaints about illegal acts of Ismayilli district prosecutor’s senior assistant Faik Guliyev,

The GPO initiated a criminal case against Guliyev under Article 311.3.3 (large-scale bribery) on suspicion of receiving a bribe from Azad Aliyev, chairman of board of firm Ismailly Tikinti-27.

Also, the investigation established that on 17-18 July Guliyev took a bribe from some Galib Suleymanov.

Money received as a bribe was found and seized as evidence during the search in Guliyev’s office.

Guliyev was charged under Articles 311.3.2 (repeated receipt of a bribe) and 311.3.3 (large-scale bribery), and he was arrested by a court decision.

The investigation also found that Ismayilli district prosecutor Ulvi Abbasov and senior assistant Faik Guliyev allowed actions that go beyond the powers of office and violate the law of the country.

By Prosecutor General’s order from 25 July 2018, Guliyev was dismissed from his prosecutor's position, while Ulvi Abbasov was relieved of his post.

Investigative and operational activities on the case continue.
