Azerbaijani and Iranian leaders met in Tehran


President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan is paying a working visit to Iran.

At the Tehran airport President Aliyev was met by Iranian Economy & Finance Minister and co-chair of the Iran-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission Massoud Karbasian and other high-ranking officials of the Iranian government.

The Azerbaijani president has already held a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.




During the meeting the sides covered prospects of cooperation in military and military-technical spheres, regional questions, exchanged views on matters of combating terrorism and extremism. The parties noted that Azerbaijani-Russian-Iranian trilateral collaboration has great potential, and this format can give good results for cooperation in important fields.

The two countries’ heads also raised issues of economic cooperation and highly appraised growth of bipartite trade turnover by 70% in 2016 and by 33% for the first 9 months of 2017.

Besides, both leaders exchanged views on cooperation in areas of mutual investment, energy, oil-gas and transport sectors. Successful implementation of the project of international transport corridor North-South was also paid attention.
