Azerbaijan launches its third satellite – Azerspace 2

September 26, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan has launched Azerspace 2 telecommunications satellite into orbit from the Kuru cosmodrome in French Guiana. Azerkosmos OJSC informs that tonight at 2:38 am on Baku time, France’s Airanespace launched telecom satellite Azerspace 2, using launch vehicle Ariane-5, into geostationary orbit. The launch was carried out from the Kuru cosmodrome.

Satellite Azerspace 2, produced by US’ Space Systems/Loral (SSL) on the basis of satellite platform SSL 1300 will cover Europe, Central and South-East Asia, the Middle East and Tropical Africa.

Cost of satellite Azerspace 2 is $190 million, and operation of the satellite is expected to provide revenues for the country's economy in the amount of $400 million.
