WB head declares his early retirement

January 8, Fineko/abc.az. The World Bank’s president is likely to leave his post early.

The resignation of Jim Yong Kim was reported by the WB press service.

"It was a great honor for me to be the president of this outstanding institution full of people who are passionate about their business - the eradication of extreme poverty," Mr. Kim said in a statement.

He pointed out that now WB’s work "is more important than ever before, as the number of the poor around the world is growing, and problems of climate change, epidemics, hunger and refugees are becoming more serious and more complex".

Mr. Kim has held this post for more than six years, and was nominated to this position by previous US president Barack Obama. The reasons for leaving are not published. Mr. Kim could remain the Bank’s president until 2022.

At that, neither the new place of work nor the new position of Mr. Kim is disclosed.
